Participants check-in for Orientation

Pre-Event Arrival Information

Check-In (Sundays & Wednesdays)

Check-in for Pre-Event Overnight accommodations is available from 6:00 - 10:00 P.M. at the Wall Hall Main Lounge in the Tercero Residence Hall Area. See Travel and Parking for directions to the Tercero Residence Hall Area. Participants arriving after 10:00 P.M. are considered late and charged a late arrival fee of $25 per person. The charge is billed to the student's account along with any other charges for Orientation.

At check-in, participants will receive all program materials (see list below), parking permits, meal tickets and directions for the following morning. Orientation meals begin with breakfast on Day 1 for the registered session (the morning after Pre-Event Overnight Check-In). Suggestions for local dinner options can be provided at the Orientation Hospitality Desk upon request.

No shuttle services from the Davis Amtrak are available during the Pre-Event Arrival times. All parking in valid Visitor Parking spaces are free on Sundays and after 5:00 P.M. on weekdays. Participants needing a parking permit will be issued one to cover their registered Orientation session time when parking is enforced on campus. 

Check-In (Mondays & Thursdays)

Check-in is from 8:30 - 9:20 A.M. on Day 1 (Mondays and Thursdays) of the First-Year Orientation Schedule at the Wall Hall Main Lounge in the Tercero Residence Hall Area. All students should bring a government issued (state or federal) photo ID to check-in. Overnight rooms will not be available before the advertised check-in time. If a student or family participant(s) does not arrive by 1:00 P.M. on the first day or cancels the reservation less than two days prior to the registered session, the student will be responsible for the full reservation fee for all registered participant(s), regardless of UC Davis student status in Fall 2017. 

Materials distributed at Check-in for registered participants:

  • Name Badge
    -Includes Orientation Leader assignment & advising appointment information
  • Orientation Materials
    -Registered student and family participants receive separate materials, which contain their individual program schedules
    -Each student will receive one set of Orientation Material(s)
    -Each family is issued one set of Orientation Material(s), regardless of the number of family participants registered
    -Additional materials are not available for distribution or purchase
  • Meal Tickets
  • Parking Permit (if participants will be driving and parked on-campus for the duration of Orientation)
  • Access Cards to overnight accommodations for those registered for the overnight program
    -Student and family participants stay in separate halls, but must check-in together

Other tasks to complete during Check-In:

  • Collect Aggie ID Card. See Pre-Orientation Tasks
  • Place parking permit on vehicle's dashboard (if needed)
  • Register student laptop. This task can be done in advance; see Pre-Orientation Tasks
  • Take a family photo for the Fall Welcome Poster
  • Place belongings in overnight room (for those participants registered for the overnight program)(check What to Bring)
  • Meet Orientation Leader or Family Host at designated meet-up location for welcome session (see individual schedules in program materials)

Check-Out and Program Conclusion (Tuesdays & Fridays)

Participants staying overnight on-campus must follow all check-out instructions listed in the schedule and reviewed during the welcome session. Student and Family participants may check-out at separate times on the morning of Day 2 (Tuesdays and Fridays), due to different program start times for the day.  For details see your participant schedule (Student Schedule is located in the First-Year and Transfer Student Handbook, Family Schedule is located in the New Student and Family Calendar), which are provided at check-in. 

Overnight participants who fail to turn in the access card to their room by the scheduled time will be charged a $25 late fee. See the Policies and Fees  page for details.

The Orientation Student program finishes on Day 2 (Tuesdays and Fridays) between 5:00 – 5:30 P.M., while the Orientation Family program is scheduled to run until 5:00 P.M. Orientation concludes when students register for fall quarter classes! As soon as they are done and have had their schedule verified by a professional academic adviser, students may leave.

The Orientation Shuttle is available at the conclusion of the program, offering trips back to the Davis Amtrak Station and the UC Davis Memorial Union. Shuttles will run in 15-minute increments beginning at 4:30 P.M. with the last shuttle leaving at 5:15 P.M.
