*Pre-Event option is intended for participants traveling distances of 3 hours or more. Details are available in the online registration system located at MyAdmissions.

Billing and Payment

The cost of Orientation plus any additional charges (i.e. reservation modification fees and lost key fees) will be billed directly to the student’s university account via MyBill. No payment is necessary at the time of reservation.  The billing statement will reflect the cost of registration and/or attendance for the student and any Family Program participant(s) that are registered and/or attend the program (billing per Reservation Modification and Cancellation Policies below). Your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) fee of $250 does not apply towards Orientation fees.

Billing and fee deadline by programs:
-Transfer and First-Year Orientation sessions: Available on the August MyBill statement and due September 15th
-International and National Orientation sessions: Available on the October MyBill statement and due November 15th

Failure to pay Orientation fees by the billing deadlines may result in a $75 per quarter Student Housing and Dining Services late charge and may result in a hold on the Student's records and a block on registration. If you have any questions or problems regarding Orientation reservation fees only, contact the Orientation Program office at 530-752-4443. Do not call the Financial Aid or Student Accounting Offices.

The Orientation program is not subsidized by student tuition. The cost of attendance covers all program materials, staffing, meals and refreshments, and overnight accommodations (if applicable).

Reservation Modification & Cancellation Policy

Transfer Program:

  • Modifications made on or before June 5, 2017: Reservation modifications, including additions, cancellations and session changes, may be completed via MyAdmissions without any charge.
  • Modifications made after June 5, 2017 and within 2 business days prior to the session: Modification requests must be submitted in writing to the Orientation Program office (orientation@ucdavis.edu). Reservation modifications will be honored on the basis of program availability and will be subject to a $25.00 Late Modification Fee per participant.
  • If a student or Family Program participant(s) does not arrive by 10:00 am on the first day or cancels the reservation less than 2 business days prior to the registered session, the student will be responsible for the full reservation fees for both the student and Family Program participant(s), regardless of UC Davis student status in Fall 2017. 

First-Year Program:

  • Modifications made prior to 14 days before the program start date: Reservation modifications, including additions, cancellations and session changes, may be completed via MyAdmissions without any charge.
  • Modifications made within 3-14 days of the program start date: Modification requests must be submitted in writing to the Orientation Program office (orientation@ucdavis.edu). Reservation modifications will be honored on the basis of program availability and will be subject to a $25.00 Late Modification Fee per participant.
  • If a student or Family Program participant(s) does not arrive by 1:00 pm on the first day or cancels the reservation less than 2 days prior to the registered session, the student will be responsible for the full reservation fees for both the student and Family Program participant(s), regardless of UC Davis student status in Fall 2017.

International and National (Out-of-State) Orientation

  • Modifications made on or before July 1, 2017: Reservation modifications, including cancellations, program type changes, and session changes, may be completed via MyAdmissions without any charge.
  • Modifications made after July 1, 2017 and before September 8, 2017: Modification requests must be submitted in writing to the Orientation Program office (orientation@ucdavis.edu). Reservation modifications will be honored on the basis of program availability and will be subject to a $25.00 Late Modification Fee per participant.
  • Modification requests made after September 8, 2017 must be made in-person at check-in and cannot be guaranteed. 
  • If a student does not arrive by the end of check-in or cancels a reservation after September 8, the student will be responsible for the full reservation fees for both the student and Family Program participant(s), regardless of UC Davis student status in Fall 2017.

Pre-Event Accommodations (all programs):

  • If a participant(s) arrives after the specified check-in times for the Pre-Event Accommodations, a Late Arrival Fee of $25 will be charged per participant.

Exceptions for Serious Illness or Family Death:

  • If attendance is prohibited by illness (as verified by a physician) or death in the family (as verified by copy of deceased certificate), no fee will be charged if a written request is received within 30 days of the scheduled program attendance date.

Withdrawing Admissions & Cancelling Orientation Reservation

  • If you decide not to attend UC Davis after signing up for an Orientation session, you are responsible for cancelling your session, to avoid being billed or incur any charges. Cancellations are subject to fees as stated in the Reservation Modification & Cancellation Policy above, depending on when the reservation is cancelled. You must contact the Orientation Program office (orientation@ucdavis.edu) in writing to cancel your reservation. Furthermore, your Orientation reservation is separate from your general Student Housing and Dining Services contract and from your Statement of Intent to Register. You must cancel each separately. Therefore, if you cancel your Student Housing and Dining Services contract, you must also cancel your Orientation reservation, vice versa.
  • If you attend an Orientation session, and later decide not to attend UC Davis, you will be billed for all Orientation fees for services provided including those of Family Program participant(s), regardless of UC Davis student status in Fall 2017. Your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) fee of $250 does not apply towards Orientation fees.

EOP

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is for low-income, first generation college students. Students applied for EOP and were determined eligible at the time of admission to UC. Only the student is eligible for the reduced Orientation fee; Family Program participant(s) are not eligible for the fee reduction and the full fee will be charged to the student’s account. 

Schedules

The student and family programs run concurrently, but are two separate programs. Transfer students and Family Program participant(s) must attend a session where advising for their major and college are offered. First-Year students and Family Program participant(s) must attend a session designated for the college the student was admitted to at UC Davis. There are no exceptions to these policies. Overnight accommodations are not available for participants of the International & National Orientation Family Program.

Orientation Conduct Policy

The time you spend at Orientation is the beginning of your educational career at UC Davis. Approach your time at Orientation seriously and we encourage you to be ready and take full advantage of what is offered during your session. Failure to attend or participate in any part of the session is your own responsibility, and can jeopardize proper academic advising and course enrollment.

The Orientation Program strictly adheres to UC Davis campus policy, as well as all state and federal laws regarding alcohol and/or drug use. The use of alcohol and/or drugs during the program is not permitted. Participants who are in the presence of and/or consuming alcohol and/or drugs will be referred to the Office of Student Support & Judicial Affairs and/or the UC Davis Police Department. Failure to abide by this policy could result in being asked to leave the program without registering for classes and be responsible for all Orientation fees.

Breathe Free

To improve the health of the campus community and create a cleaner environment, UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus. Smoke and tobacco free means that smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products and the use of unregulated nicotine products ("e‐cigarettes) are prohibited in indoor and outdoor spaces, such as parking lots and rental units on campus. The sale or advertising of tobacco products is prohibited in buildings owned or occupied by the university. This policy applies to all UC Davis facilities in Davis and at satellite locations. It applies to all faculty, staff, students, volunteers, contractors, visitors, and anyone entering onto University‐controlled properties. It is applicable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Assistance Needed During Orientation

Any Orientation Program participant(s) in need of special assistance due to a permanent or temporary disability, which may require advance arrangements, please contact the Orientation Program office at orientation@ucdavis.edu or 530-752-4443 at least 2 weeks prior to the registered session date to request assistance. This includes test-taking assistance for placement exams administered at Orientation and language interpretation/translation services (Orientation only offers interpreters for specific languages) for Family Program participant(s).

Right to Privacy

In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), the Orientation Program protects the confidentiality of any student (age 18 or over) records. Access to a student's Orientation records will be given to that student only, unless the student has given consent. See the Privacy Information on the Office of the University Registrar website. Lost and Found

The Orientation Program is not liable for lost or stolen items. However, lost & found items are collected if left by participants during the program. If you believe you have lost an item, please contact the office at 530-752-4443 or email orientation@ucdavis.edu. Be sure to include the full name, session date, building and room number (if applicable) of student or family member, where item may have been left, and a detailed description of the lost item. To claim a lost item, you will need to provide valid photo identification at time of pick up. Any item that remains unclaimed will be donated 90 days after the end of the Orientation Program.
