Freshmen Orientation is a must for a successful beginning at UC Davis. We want to welcome you, share our University, and give you an opportunity to learn the information needed to get you off to a good academic start. Freshmen who attend Orientation are given priority registration for Fall Quarter before other students who do not attend. Orientation also includes the required placement exams, academic advising, and information about critical campus resources and services. Therefore, we urge you to make every effort to attend this important event at UC Davis. Freshmen students who participate in Orientation are better prepared, encounter fewer problems, and generally have a very positive feeling about their experiences at UC Davis. Plan to join us!
Orientation Dates for Fall 2009
Freshmen Orientation occurs on the UC Davis campus this summer on the following dates below. Plan to stay the entire time. Family members that wish to attend with you will have a separate program (Family Orientation). The programs only overlap during meal times.

The first floor of the wing in Peter J. Shields Library offers spacious seating and an attractive atmosphere for research and studying.
Mike Birch/University Communications/UC Davis
You must attend a group session that matches the college to which you have been admitted to at UC Davis. There are no exceptions to this policy. Students wishing to change majors must wait until the winter term (January 2010) to submit a "change of major" request.

You will check-in on the first day at 1:00 p.m. at Tercero Main Lounge (see travel & parking). Please be sure to eat lunch before checking into the program, as the first meal will be dinner. You will check out on the last day after registering for classes and eating lunch (generally around 12:30 p.m.). Be aware that the Tercero Building closes at 1:30 p.m. so plan accordingly for rides/travel arrangements.
Class Registration & Advising
Freshmen register for classes on the last day of their Orientation session. Do not plan to leave early! You will receive advising and assistance in preparing your schedule for Fall 2009. Orientation includes an in-depth workshop on graduation requirements for all students. Our Orientation Leaders will also assist you with selection of classes and actual registration on the final day. There will be an opportunity for you to meet with your college dean's office for advising during Orientation as well.
Fees for Orientation
Actual fees for Orientation are listed on the Fees & Reservation page. The cost of Orientation plus any additional charges (i.e. reservation modification fees and lost key fees) will be billed directly to the student’s accounting statement via MyBill. The charge will post in late August and is due in September at the same time of Fall Quarter registration fees. The billing statement will reflect the cost of attendance for both the student and any family members that participate in the program.
How to Register for Orientation
Registration for Orientation occurs on your MyAdmissions page. Look for the "Orientation" link on your admissions checklist, then click on "Make a Reservation". Go ahead and sign up yourself and any family members that plan to attend. Family members can attend for an additional fee. [Note: If you have been invited to apply for Special Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP), please review your MyAdmissions page for additional information.]
Prior to two weeks of the program start date, any reservation modifications (including additions of additional family members, cancellations and/or session switches) may be completed via MyAdmissions without any charge. If after two weeks, refer to the reservation modification policy on the Fees & Reservation page.

If you chose the full program option during Orientation, you will be housed on-campus during your time at Orientation.
