Welcome to the United States, California and the Aggie Family!

UC Davis values the various perspectives, experiences and diversity that students from countries outside of the United States, international students, bring to the campus community.

All international students coming to Davis with F-1 or J-1 visas are expected to attend the Orientation session provided by Services for International Students and Scholars (SISS) which is a separate program. You can locate the date and time of the session on the SISS site for newly admitted students.

English Language Placement Exam

Incoming students who speak a language other than English at home should plan to take the English Language Placement Exam (ELPE) on Saturday, May 28.

International Students have a place just for them, with the Services for International Students and Scholars Office. SISS has information that all International students need to know. Be sure to review their website before coming to the UC Davis Campus to begin classes.

International students are encouraged to look at a special opportunity through the Summer Start program. Learn more about this opportunity and whether or not it is something you should consider participating in as a new International student at UC Davis.  If you decide not to participate in Summer Start, we recommend attending Orientation.

Important Visa Information

First-Year Students

If attending any of the summer orientation dates during July or August, First-Year International Students cannot stay in the United States to wait for the beginning of fall quarter. The F-1 visa will only allow entrance to the U.S. up to 30 days prior to the beginning of instruction. Students should contact their SISS international student advisor with any questions.

Transfer Students

If attending any of the summer orientation dates during June, Transfer International Students can stay in the United States to wait for the beginning of fall quarter. This can only happen if proper steps have been taken to transfer the SEVIS record to UC Davis from the previous institution. Students should contact their SISS international student advisor with any questions.
