Remember summer Orientation and your First-Year Experience?

Help create a fantastic experience for new Aggies. How? Apply for one or more of the paid student leadership positions described below.

The offices of Orientation and First-Year Experience want new students to feel welcomed and supported from the moment they arrive on campus for Orientation through their first year. The best advice and guidance often comes from students themselves, and we value selecting a diverse staff to meet the needs of our new incoming students. Be a part of helping new Aggies transition to UC Davis!

  • Orientation Leaders walk with their groups to the next session.

  • First-Year Experience Peer Advisors work with students through drop-in advising.

  • The Business Office staff participates in Hat Day!

  • Breakin' it down with Gunrock!

  • The FYE team creates posters to advertise for the Academic Advising Center Open House.

  • The Business Office is ready to assist our guests.

  • Orientation Leader meet one-on-one with their students to discuss classes and options.

  • Desk Assistants staff our Hospitality Desk in the summer.

  • The FYE team bonds with a fun bowling social.

  • Orientation Leaders provide academic advising information and help answer students' questions.

  • Program and Desk Assistants help with shuttling guests and materials during the summer.

Step 1. Find the position(s) that interest you!


  • Business Office Program Assistants (PAs) and Desk Assistants (DAs) serve as the forefront of customer service with Orientation by providing logistical support to the Orientation program and assisting incoming students and families with general questions, concerns, and program registration via phone and email. PAs and DAs also apply skills to multi‐task, take initiative, and work in a fast-paced office and program environment.

    Desk Assistant Job Description 
  • Orientation Leaders (OLs) are student staff members who work during the summer to provide orientation and advising services for all incoming students (both transfer and first‐year) at UC Davis. OLs receive extensive training in academic advising, presentation skills, and facilitating diverse groups of students. OLs work with small groups of students each Orientation session. OLs also have the opportunity to work with family members and guests during the program.

First-Year Experience

  • First‐Year Experience (FYE) Peer Advisors provide academic-based advising, facilitate evening academic programs, and maintain the daily operations of the Academic Advising Centers to support students’ academic first year success and development.

    First-Year Experience Peer Advisor Job Description
  • Living-Learning Community Peer Advisors (LLCPAs) provide academic-based advising, programming, support, community building, and mentorship for new students living in the assigned Living Learning Community (LLC). LLCs with LLCPA support are:
    • African American and/African
    • Asian Pacific American Theme House
    • Casa Cuauhtémoc (two LLCPAs)
    • Middle East/South Asian
    • Rainbow House communities

  • Tuesday, November 14, from 1:10 to 2 PM in Regan Main, Segundo Residence Area
  • Wednesday, November 29, from 6:10 to 7 PM in Wall Main, Tercero Residence Area
  • Thursday, December 7, from 6:10 to 7 PM in Regan Main, Segundo Residence Area
  • Wednesday, January 10, from 1:10 to 2 PM in Wall Main, Tercero Residence Area

Step 5. Prepare for your interview.

Applications will be reviewed and those offered an interview will be emailed to sign up for an interview time slot. (Don’t forget to check that UC Davis email!)  Interviews will be held weekdays during the following dates:

  • Orientation Business Office positions (PA/DA): Week of January 22-26
  • Orientation Leader positions: First two weeks of February
  • First-Year Experience Peer Advisor and Living Learning Community Peer Advisor positions: First two weeks of February
