Memorial Union bus terminal

The Memorial Union (MU) bus terminal is a major hub of Unitrans, which is the campus and city bus system. The MU is a stop along the Yolobus 42A and 42B routes (from the airport and Greyhound).

Travel Options to UC Davis

Travel arrangements should not be made until an electronic confirmation of Orientation registration has been sent and received to the student’s UC Davis email account. A copy should be printed as record of registration.

Orientation Shuttle

The Orientation Program provides a free shuttle from the Amtrak Station in the City of Davis and the Memorial Union on campus, to the Tercero Area where Orientation is located on campus. If you are interested in this service, please call 530-752-5190 upon arrival to the Amtrak Station in Davis. The Orientation staff will transport participants to the program in a university vehicle. Orientation staff can also transport participants back to the Amtrak Station or Memorial Union, upon close of the program. Visit the Orientation Hospitality Desk during the program to sign-up for a return shuttle to either location.

Transfer Orientation:
  • Shuttles are offered on an on-call basis.  Call 530-752-5190 to request a pick-up.  We recommend scheduling Amtrak trains departing Davis at 6 P.M. or later to allow for travel time following the program.
First-Year Orientation:
  • Pre-Event Overnight Arrivals (Sundays and Wednesdays): There is no shuttle service for participants checking in for the Pre-Event Overnight option.
  • Day 1 (Mondays and Thursdays): Shuttles are available from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. Call 530-752-5190 to request a pick-up.
  • Day 2 (Tuesday and Fridays): Shuttles are available from 4:15 - 5:15 p.m. Sign-up at the Orientation Hospitality Desk during the program.

Amtrak Station

The Amtrak Station is conveniently located in downtown Davis, just minutes from campus. The Amtrak Station is an Orientation Shuttle (free) pick-up site. Please see above for details.

Greyhound Bus

Greyhound does not provide direct service to Davis. The closest station is located in Sacramento. From Sacramento, you would need to locate the appropriate connecting bus or train to Davis or use a taxi service.

Sacramento International Airport

The Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is approximately 20 miles from UC Davis. It is served by most of the leading domestic and many international airline carriers. Below are the various ground transportation options and directions to UC Davis from the airport.

Yolobus

The Yolobus (#42A & B) is $2.00 each way, and takes approximately one hour. Take Yolobus 42B from the Sacramento airport to UC Davis and Yolobus 42A when returning to the airport from campus. It leaves from the Sacramento Airport at both terminals and drops passengers off at the UC Davis Memorial Union (MU).

Taxi

Taxi rates vary and should be confirmed before committing to this option. Sacramento International Airport website offers a list of taxi options.

There are several shuttle options and rental car options from the Sacramento International Airport to UC Davis.

Oakland International Airport

The Oakland International Airport (OAK) is approximately 77 miles from UC Davis. It is served by most of the leading domestic airline carriers and many international airline carriers. There are various ways to get to UC Davis from OAK, including a connecting flight to the Sacramento International Airport and ground transportation options to UC Davis from the airport. San Francisco International Airport

The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is approximately 84 miles from UC Davis. It is served by most of the leading domestic airline carriers and many international airline carriers. There are various ways to get to UC Davis from SFO, including a connecting flight to the Sacramento International Airport and ground transportation options to UC Davis from the airport. Driving to UC Davis

The closest available parking to Orientation is located in the Visitor Parking (VP) Lot #47 (south of the Tercero Residence Halls and Tercero Services Center). Driving directions to Visitor Parking Lot #47 can be found using the campus map. If using a global positioning system (GPS), the following address can be used to get to Visitor Parking Lot #47: La Rue Road & Bioletti Way, Davis, CA 95616. As you arrive to VP Lot #47, there will be signs directing participants toward check-in at the Tercero Services Center. Some general directions are provided below.

Interstate 80 East

Take Interstate 80 East, merging onto Highway 113 north toward Woodland. Take the Hutchison Drive exit off of Highway 113, then take a right on La Rue Road. Follow the road around the curve and Visitor Parking Lot #47 will be on the left. Park in VP Lot #47. Once parked, follow the Orientation signage to check-in at the Tercero Services Center and obtain a parking permit for VP Lot #47. See below for Parking Permit Instructions.

Interstate 5 North and Highway 113 South

Take Interstate 5 North, taking exit 536 for Main Street in Woodland. Taking a left, follow Main Street to signs for a left hand turn onto 113 South. Follow 113 South for about 10 miles. Take the Hutchison Drive exit off of Highway 113, then turn right on La Rue Road. Follow the road around the curve and Visitor Parking Lot #47 will be on the left. Park in VP Lot #47. Interstate 80 West

Take Interstate 80 West to exit 71 for UC Davis. Take a right on Old Davis Road, following directional signs for UC Davis. Continue straight, passing the Information Center. Make a left for La Rue Road by entering the traffic circle. Follow the traffic circle, exiting for La Rue Road. After crossing the bridge, take a left to continue on La Rue Rd. Follow the road and Visitor Parking Lot #47 will be on the right. Park in VP Lot #47. Once parked, follow the Orientation signage to check-in at the Tercero Services Center and obtain a parking permit for VP Lot #47. See below for Parking Permit Instructions.

Parking Permit Instructions

One visitor parking permit will be provided to the student, if needed, during program check-in. Please note that if you arrive earlier than the stated time for check-in, you will be subject to all parking enforcements. Permits are not provided earlier than check-in. Only one permit will be issued for the duration of your stay (one day for Transfer participants and two days for First-Year participants). Orientation is not responsible for replacing lost parking permits. If additional permits are needed, they can be purchased in VP Lot #47 for a daily rate. Permit dispensers accept Visa and Mastercard only (they do not accept cash). Please see Transportation and Parking Services for details regarding visitor parking restrictions.
