Driving to UC Davis

Parking for Orientation
First-Year Orientation Parking
Anyone traveling to First-Year Orientation by car will park in the Tercero Housing Area, and should park in Visitor Lot #47. If you are parking for the duration of Orientation, you will receive a parking permit (read more below.) If you are only dropping off a student or guest at Orientation, you will not need a permit.
Transfer Orientation Parking
Parking and Check-In for Transfer Orientation varies by program. Please read below to determine the parking lot and check-in location of your specific program.
- Session 1 – Wednesday, August 8 – Park in Visitor Lot #1 off of Old Davis Road
- Session 2 – Thursday, August 9 – Park in Visitor Lot #1 off of Old Davis Road
- Session 3 – Friday, August 10 – Park in Visitor Lot #1 off of Old Davis Road
- Session 4 – Monday, August 13 – Park in Visitor Lot #1 off of Old Davis Road
- Session 5 – Tuesday, August 14 – Park in Visitor Lot #47 off of La Rue Road
- Session 6 – Wednesday, August 15 – Park in Visitor Lot #47 off of La Rue Road
If you are parking for the duration of Orientation, you will receive a parking permit (read more below.) If you are only dropping off a student or guest at Orientation, you will not need a permit.
Parking Permit Instructions
One visitor parking permit will be provided to the student, if needed, during program check-in. Please note that if you arrive earlier than the stated time for check-in, you will be subject to all parking enforcements. Permits are not provided earlier than check-in. Only one permit will be issued for the duration of your stay (one day for Transfer participants and two days for First-Year participants). Orientation is not responsible for replacing lost parking permits. If additional permits are needed, they can be purchased at the kiosk in the parking lot for a daily rate of $9.00. Permit dispensers accept Visa and Mastercard only (they do not accept cash). Please see Transportation and Parking Services for details regarding visitor parking restrictions.
Check-in does not begin earlier than the time stated in the registration confirmation. Please plan appropriately. If you get lost or need assistance locating the Check-In Area, call us at 530-752-4443.
Parking for First-Year Pre-Event Participants
All parking in valid Visitor Parking spaces are free on Sundays and after 5:00 P.M. on weekdays, so Pre-Event participants arriving after 5:00 PM will not need to purchase a parking pass for the extra night they stay over.
Other Travel Options to UC Davis
Travel arrangements should not be made until an electronic confirmation of Orientation registration has been sent and received to the student’s UC Davis email account. A copy should be printed as record of registration.
The Orientation Program provides a free shuttle from the Orientation Program to the Amtrak Station in the City of Davis and the Memorial Union on campus. This service is only available at the end of the program on Day 2 for the First-Year Orientation program. If you are interested in this service, you can sign up for a ride during Check-In, or you can visit the Orientation Hospitality Desk to sign up. The Orientation staff will transport participants to the program in a university vehicle.
- Pre-Event Overnight Arrivals (Sundays and Wednesdays): There is no shuttle service for participants checking in for the Pre-Event Overnight option.
- Day 2 (Tuesday and Fridays): Shuttles are available from 5:15-6:00 P.M.
Shuttle Pick-Up Point:

- Memorial Union on UC Davis Campus
The Amtrak Station is conveniently located in downtown Davis, just minutes from campus. The Amtrak Station is an Orientation Shuttle (free) pick-up site. Please see above for details.
Greyhound does not provide direct service to Davis. The closest station is located in Sacramento. From Sacramento, you would need to locate the appropriate connecting bus or train to Davis or use a taxi service.
Sacramento International Airport
The Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is approximately 20 miles from UC Davis. It is served by most of the leading domestic and many international airline carriers. Below are the various ground transportation options and directions to UC Davis from the airport.
The Yolobus (#42A & B) is $2.00 each way, and takes approximately one hour. Take Yolobus 42B from the Sacramento airport to UC Davis and Yolobus 42A when returning to the airport from campus. It leaves from the Sacramento Airport at both terminals and drops passengers off at the UC Davis Memorial Union (MU).

Oakland International Airport
The Oakland International Airport (OAK) is approximately 77 miles from UC Davis. It is served by most of the leading domestic airline carriers and many international airline carriers. There are various ways to get to UC Davis from OAK, including a connecting flight to the Sacramento International Airport and ground transportation options to UC Davis from the airport. San Francisco International Airport
