UC Davis recognizes that students from other countries, international students, and U.S. residents from outside California, national students, have different perspectives, experiences, and needs than those coming from California. While Orientation highly encourages all students to attend Transfer Orientation or First-Year Orientation for their college, it is understood that it isn't always possible for new students to travel to UC Davis during June, July and August and then return for the fall quarter in September. To meet the diverse needs of international and national students, we provide International and National Orientation (INO) as an alternative option.
The registration deadline for International and National Orientation is June 11 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. International and National Orientation occurs in two phases.
Phase 1: Advising
All students attending International and National Orientation will be emailed their course recommendations from their College Dean’s Office to their UC Davis email account. Be sure to check your UC Davis email account daily as this is the primary communication between the university and students.
Phase 2: On-campus Orientation
Monday, September 17th – Thursday September 20th (8 AM-5 PM PCT)
During Phase 2 On-Campus Orientation, students will:
- Stay in on-campus housing throughout the week
- Meet other new international and national students
- Participate in group activities with an Orientation Leader
- Hear from their college’s deans office
- Receive additional academic advising
- Learn about life at UC Davis
- Learn about many campus resources.
If participants need housing accommodations before September 17, contact the Conference Housing Office. Email or call their office at email@example.com or 530-752-8000 (for international students, call 001-530-752-8000.) Please request this early arrival housing late August or when you receive your academic year room assignment from Student Housing. Deadline to request early arrival accommodations is Wednesday, September 12, 2018.
International Students: Important Visa Information
If attending any of the First-Year orientation dates during June, July, or August, First-Year International Students cannot stay in the United States to wait for the beginning of fall quarter. The F-1 visa will only allow entrance to the U.S. up to 30 days prior to the beginning of instruction. Students should contact their SISS international student advisor with any questions.
If attending any of the Transfer orientation dates during August, Transfer International Students can stay in the United States to wait for the beginning of fall quarter. This can only happen if proper steps have been taken to transfer the SEVIS record to UC Davis from the previous institution. Students should contact their SISS international student advisor with any questions.
